New Distracted Driving Ordinance

The city’s new distracted driving ordinance takes effect Thursday February 7, 2019. At its January 8th meeting the Glendale City Council adopted a new ordinance banning the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle. This is a considered a primary offense meaning officers can pull you over for this violation alone. The fine for the first offense is $250.00. Officers will be contacting drivers in violation of the ordinance in order to educate and enforce the new rules. The city believes this an important measure to keep our streets safe and encourages all residents to avoid distractions caused by using handheld devices while driving. Use of such devices in hands-free mode is allowed.
